About the artist

Pamela Mileo is a textile artist from Lucania, originally from Latronico (Basilicata), and lives in Milan. Her artistic research stems from the intersection of tradition and innovation, transforming fabrics, threads, and embroidery into works that express emotions, memories, and identity. In her creations, she uses various textile techniques, including crochet de Lunéville, promoting embroidery as a contemporary expressive language. She learned Latronico needlepoint from one of the fifty lacemakers who still preserve this ancient tradition in her hometown, contributing today to preserving and promoting its value through art. Each work contains an NFC tag that allows visitors to discover its history, meaning, and creative journey, creating a dialogue between the work and the viewer. She is included among the artists in the Encyclopedia of Italian Art – General Catalogue of Artists from the Twentieth Century to Today and, in 2026, she was selected by the Encyclopedia of Italian Art to exhibit in the exhibition “Otto Sguardi d’Autore 2026” at the Museum of Art and Science in Milan.

L'uomo senza età - Castello di Episcopia, Resta (dettaglio)

L'uomo senza età - Castello di Episcopia, Resta (dettaglio)

Mixed textile technique · 2026 · 70 x 100 cm

The Ageless Man - Episcopia Castle, Resta was born from a work I had created almost empty. It was essential, reduced to a small sign suspended in space. When I created it, almost everyone asked me the same question... "What does it represent?" And I always replied: "Look at it. Tell me what you see." Some saw a balloon. Some a flower. Some a hole. I told my children and my husband: "First tell me what you see, then I'll tell you what it represents to me." And I told them it could represent our family. It was born almost as a provocation, even though I had already found the meaning. But that's not my way of making art. I don't like creating something without a precise meaning and waiting for others to find it. I need to tell a story. To talk about people, places, emotions, and memories. To give shape to something I carry within me. Of places you no longer inhabit but that continue to inhabit you. Yet Resta continues to be my reality today. Because today my life is here. In my family. In the bonds I've built. In the people I love. I won't take away any of that meaning. But within that small sign there's also another story. That's why today it becomes the Episcopia Castle. A place that for me means family, important people, friendships, mistakes, laughter, and moments that can never be the same again, but that live on within. A place that holds a part of my life. When I create a work of art, I almost always listen to a song that can express what I'm thinking while I'm working on it. That's why I chose Uomo senza età. To that town that continues to hold a special place in my heart. To what time has changed. To what is no longer as it was then. But also to the fortune of having lived it. I don't just feel nostalgia for something that is no longer there. I feel gratitude for what has been. And when that nostalgia meets reality, it also finds the serenity of knowing that life has taken me elsewhere, to a place where I am happy. Perhaps this is what growing up is all about. Taking with you what remains, without ceasing to move forward. And so, from that small sign suspended in the void, The Ageless Man - Episcopia Castle was born. Because some places never stop being home. You might be wondering why Episcopia Castle. Because it's been there forever. It has seen generations, stories, encounters, and farewells pass by. Time has left its mark. In some places, it's a bit worn. And yet, there's still something special about it. It continues to be beautiful. It continues to be there. Maybe this is what makes me think of an ageless man. Because, despite the passage of time, some things remain. They change shape. They bear the marks of the years. But they continue to preserve what they once were. And ultimately, this is also the story I just told you.
